We're now seeing a temporary 'new normal.'
Major events being cancelled. Seasons cancelled. Distancing.
It's a very anxious and uncertain period not just now but in the coming months. And this is spilling into the box office.
I was able to see "The Invisible Man" when it came out but in the back of my mind I was still thinking of world events and how they may shape the coming months. And it seems as if theaters will definitely get hit.
"A Quiet Place 2" has been delayed until our collective leadership starts to get a hold of the panic and uncertainty. When that happens? Who knows. I know we're all hoping it's sooner rather than later.
As many close to me know I'm a big theater goer. There's nothing like going to the movies in a theater with an enthusiastic crowd, enjoying a film on the big screen. The environment, the fandom. It's for many (including myself) an escape from the problems of the real world.
Now the real world has taken that away as well.
Not to be a complete downer, there's still the wonderful world of streaming, which has already taken a good portion of viewers away from the theaters even before this 'new normal.' But there were still us movie geeks.
I'm going to listen to our leaders and practice common sense. I haven't seen a film in the theater since "The Invisible Man" and I'm not sure when I'm going to go back again. I WILL go back, but the unpredictability has left that date open.
Stay safe everyone, and enjoy your home entertainment.

Intentional Parallels? ("Conclave" Movie Review)
"Conclave" is a mystery thriller based on the 2016 Robert Harris book of the same name. Starring Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the film focuses on the most powerful group of the Catholic Church cardinals as they mourn their recently deceased pope and prepare to vote for a new one. As they continue to vote and debate the merits of the nominees, many twists and turns present bumps in the road. And that last twist...well, it's a doozy. Being a registered independent, this film firmly leans in the progressive side of things, though corruption seeps into all sides. It is a fight for those in the middle to choose which way the church will continue into the future. Whether it should go back to reading Latin and become so conservative that they choose not to accept other religions or liberal points of view, or whether to continue to go in a more progressive way and deal with the world as it changes. As I watched this film I couldn't help...
