The Horror Remake (Susperia)

My Google + friend Scott Napier commented on the new "Susperia" trailer and voiced his apprehension. And every film fan has a right to be a little worried about the remake of a great film.
The film in question is the original 1977 Dario Argento classic, "Susperia," a masterwork of visual horror. The new film, starring Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Chloe Grace Moretz.
I can completely understand as a fan of film how attached I can be towards a film or a franchise. But when this topic comes up I always bring up my favorite Hammer Studio films. "Curse Of Frankenstein" starring the legendary duo of Sir Christopher Lee and the great Peter Cushing, was a remake of the masterpiece from Universal Studios, "Frankenstein," starring Boris Karloff. It held it's own as an adaptation of the immortal novel by Mary Shelley and stood out as it's own film as well. Following that up was "Horror Of Dracula," starring the same legendary duo. In my opinion, it's BETTER than the Bela Lugosi film, but that's up to the viewer.
So for whatever fear we have of a potential butchering of a classic film, remember that horror has a history of making classic remakes of classic films. That is why I love this genre so much.

Intentional Parallels? ("Conclave" Movie Review)
"Conclave" is a mystery thriller based on the 2016 Robert Harris book of the same name. Starring Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the film focuses on the most powerful group of the Catholic Church cardinals as they mourn their recently deceased pope and prepare to vote for a new one. As they continue to vote and debate the merits of the nominees, many twists and turns present bumps in the road. And that last twist...well, it's a doozy. Being a registered independent, this film firmly leans in the progressive side of things, though corruption seeps into all sides. It is a fight for those in the middle to choose which way the church will continue into the future. Whether it should go back to reading Latin and become so conservative that they choose not to accept other religions or liberal points of view, or whether to continue to go in a more progressive way and deal with the world as it changes. As I watched this film I couldn't help...
