Halloween Shops, EARLY? You Won't Hear ME Complain!
Usually I walk around the Spirit Halloween shop, looking in the windows and seeing unopened boxes of goodies I have and haven't seen for this upcoming Halloween season. For those youngsters, there was a commercial for an old department store called Mervyns, and the lady outside was flashing her hands saying 'open, open, open...'
Well, that's me. The Halloween Nerd. This holiday has meant the world to me ever since I was a horror loving weirdo kid. It brings back the days of me dressing up and walking down many blocks getting Halloween candy, listening to Halloween records and T.V. specials. This holiday is not a dark, pagan spell upon the masses. It's a time to dress up and have fun. And celebrate that part of our imagination that gets creeped out at the noises in the dark. And most often they aren't anything to be afraid of.
So when I walked past my local Spirit Halloween shop, saw the setup was complete (in AUGUST!), and shoppers rolling around, I was giddy with joy! I first asked the girl working 'are you guys OPEN?' And when she said 'yes,' I was ready. Oh...the Halloween Hype is ON NOW!
Seeing social media posts of like minded Halloween lovers posting of their want for the holiday to 'be here already,' and countdowns to the date itself, I think NOW you can officially get ready! It still feels like summer outside, but our hearts are BURNING for Halloween!

Intentional Parallels? ("Conclave" Movie Review)
"Conclave" is a mystery thriller based on the 2016 Robert Harris book of the same name. Starring Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the film focuses on the most powerful group of the Catholic Church cardinals as they mourn their recently deceased pope and prepare to vote for a new one. As they continue to vote and debate the merits of the nominees, many twists and turns present bumps in the road. And that last twist...well, it's a doozy. Being a registered independent, this film firmly leans in the progressive side of things, though corruption seeps into all sides. It is a fight for those in the middle to choose which way the church will continue into the future. Whether it should go back to reading Latin and become so conservative that they choose not to accept other religions or liberal points of view, or whether to continue to go in a more progressive way and deal with the world as it changes. As I watched this film I couldn't help...
