A Shakespearian actor who has been recognized as one of the finest character actors of his era.
An acclaimed actor who's worked with legendary directors like Cecil B. DeMille and John Ford and performed with the likes of John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, and James Stewart. An actor worthy of the giants of Hollywood.
But as a die hard Universal Monsters Horror fan, my favorites of his are the monster mashes "House Of Frankenstein" and "House Of Dracula."
Seeing more than one movie monster was something that gave me great joy. And I enjoyed those Universal team ups. And the Carradine films were full on All-Star events. Whether you believe they rank with the original origin films or whether you think they're vintage cash grabs, they are part of a great tradition of classic horror. An age never to be repeated again.
Maybe he wasn't MY Dracula. Bela Lugosi (and then later Sir Christopher Lee) were my Princes Of Darkness. But he deserves his spot among the greats.
Funny how many of these classic gentlemen actors were from a great Shakespearian tradition.
The genre has been by some marginalized. But I never understood that. In my opinion the greatest actor of the silent era was the great Lon Chaney. Lugosi was also a Shakespearian actor. James Whale was a groundbreaking filmmaker.
And John Carradine was an actor of great prestige who did just about everything in Hollywood.
Thank you sir for your contributions to the genre and to film.

Intentional Parallels? ("Conclave" Movie Review)
"Conclave" is a mystery thriller based on the 2016 Robert Harris book of the same name. Starring Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the film focuses on the most powerful group of the Catholic Church cardinals as they mourn their recently deceased pope and prepare to vote for a new one. As they continue to vote and debate the merits of the nominees, many twists and turns present bumps in the road. And that last twist...well, it's a doozy. Being a registered independent, this film firmly leans in the progressive side of things, though corruption seeps into all sides. It is a fight for those in the middle to choose which way the church will continue into the future. Whether it should go back to reading Latin and become so conservative that they choose not to accept other religions or liberal points of view, or whether to continue to go in a more progressive way and deal with the world as it changes. As I watched this film I couldn't help...
