The MCU seems to be in a period of transition. After the undisputed success of "Avengers: Endgame" and the way it completed its Thanos Infinity Gauntlet storyline, it felt a bit anticlimactic to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe continue on. With offerings like "Black Widow," which followed the DCEU's "Wonder Woman" as the second female led superhero film (of course we all forget about "Electra" and "Catwoman," for good reason), they had a chance long ago to give her her own solo film and ended up making one after her characters death in "Endgame." And following films were hit or miss. But fans weren't feeling the new multiverse setup with Kang The Conqueror (though they used the multiverse to great effect with "Spiderman: No Way Home").
So bringing in The Fantastic Four into the MCU after four films ranging from cheesy to bad, and bringing them into this version of the MCU that seems to be struggling to find its footing...well, it seemed to be a tall task. Marvel had to execute a near perfect Fantastic Four film.
I'm pleased to say that this Fantastic Four film not only is the best Fantastic Four film ever created, but it's quite possibly one of the finest MCU films, and that's saying something. The cast of Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing is nothing short of inspired casting. They are the best Fantastic Four cast with the best chemistry.
The story brings a fully fleshed out (and not 'cloudy') version of Galactus as the main villain, whose hunger for planet destruction suddenly finds an unlikely replacement to take over his burden. Being that the replacement is in the Fantastic Four family, the Four do not accept his offer of sparing their Earth. So now they need to find a way to defeat him, and that's the daunting task at hand.
This film follows the hit DCU reboot film "Superman," which also leans into the weird and wonderful world of comic books. What we as fans get is the start of a new golden age.
Rejoice! And be thankful for this new age. We comic fans are going to eat well...AGAIN.
