The Roswell UFO Incident

Image
Let me just get this out right away. I believe in UFO's. Plain and simple. And I don't think there's anything about the belief in UFO's that is 'crazy.' The term UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object. Now imagine the incredible stealth fighter flying around in the late 1940's or '50's. How would anyone from that era NOT lose their minds over that? I think a UFO is experimental tech flying around from a Top Secret government facility. That's not hard to believe. Aliens however? That's another thing altogether. And that's what brings life to the imaginations of many when talking about the 1947 Roswell UFO Incident. On July 7, 1947, there were claims of an extraterrestrial flying saucer crashing to earth, inhabited by alien beings. It is by far the most famous of UFO claims. Roswell, New Mexico has even made it a fun tourist spot. What UFO nut wouldn't want to make a pilgrimage there? Despite what you believe, I hope you have fu

"It: Chapter Two" - The Hype Is Real

Image
When Stephen King's 2017 adaptation of his classic novel "It" came out, it brought a new generation a different version of the 'Losers Club' and the dreaded clown Pennywise. The 1990 miniseries was the version that made Tim Curry a legend and Bill Skarsgard had big clown shoes to fill. And he did, as did the wonderful cast of kids playing the Losers Club. Now a picture has dropped of the adult Losers Club. The hype is real. Headed by the magnificent Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, this is as anticipated (if not MORE so) than the 2017 film. It's going to be amazing when that first trailer drops. Get ready for another round of hype for this follow-up to the wonderful new adaptation. And here's to the success of one of our horror heroes...Stephen King.

A New American Horror Tradition (The Purge)

Image
Once again, the spectacular 4th Of July is upon us. A time for recognizing the freedoms we have and celebrating with family BBQs, fireworks, and street fairs. A wonderful time if you are American. But I've noticed a grim new American tradition. At least in the movie theaters. This 4th Of July, like the last, a new Purge movie is being released. "The First Purge." A new franchise that has caught the (fearful) imagination of Americans who see our further separation of the 1% and the 99 and imagine a dystopian America where the rich enjoy protections and the poor are left exposed and with no hope. This first film will show how it all begins. This should be a treat for all Purge fans. I enjoy the franchise. I personally thought the second film ("Anarchy") is the best of the bunch, but still get excited to go into this strange future. But after we go into this dark escapism, hopefully we can come out and try to mend this polarization of the nation and look to

The REAL Dark Universe

Image
M. Night Shyamalan's ups and downs have been epic. With "The Sixth Sense," "Unbreakable," and "Signs," he was prematurely crowned 'The Next Spielberg. After "The Happening" and "The Last Airbender," he was brought back to earth. It seemed with his ego he wouldn't be able to come back from films like "After Earth." But he smartly regrouped and scaled down. "The Visit" was a great step forward. Then "Split" came. Headed by a BRILLIANT performance from the magnificent James McAvoy, the film was unsettling and a return to form for Shyamalan. What happened at the end credit scene made fans excited again. For this was the beginning of a shared universe. I was one of the handful of people that was rooting for Universal's 'Dark Universe.' I loved the old Universal Monsters characters and wanted to see a shared universe with my favorites (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, etc.), but

The Triumphant Return Of PREDATOR?

Image
The "Predator" series has had it's ups and downs. To some fans, it's only really had one up. And that's the original classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. I can't really blame them. The sequels haven't lived up to that film. With Arnold being one of my action heroes of the '80's, that original was just another great movie of his. An amazing sci fi horror experience. The second one is very '80's and sometimes that is code for 'cheese,' but I had fun with it. The Alien -vs- Predator series is fun but could've been more. Now it returns with "Predator" veteran Shane Black. He says it will bring the Predator franchise to that 'event' status it had back in the day. I really hope so. With horror (both mainstream and indie) making great strides at the box office, this could mark the triumphant return. We shall see...

Hail To The King Baby (Happy Birthday Bruce Campbell!)

Image
Born on June 22nd 1958, the great Bruce Campbell has made a wonderful return to the spotlight, thanks to "Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness." His cameo appearance (two in the film) are arguably the best in the MCU aside from some of the classic Stan Lee spots. And they lovingly give tribute to his horror legacy. Thanks to the so called 'fans' either not showing up to watch "Ash Vs The Evil Dead" or just stealing the show and watching it via bootleg, the final chapter of the iconic Ash Williams has come to an end. I figured he was going to call it a day anyway and retire the character, but not so abruptly. But even after all of that...it was a GREAT run. Now he's set to produce a new Evil Dead with fresh victims and Deadites from director Lee Cronin and producing parter Sam Raimi. I've always had a fond love for horror comedies. From the early days of Abbott and Costello to Mel Brooks to the modern classics like "Shaun Of The Dead,

"Curse Of The Revenant 10th Anniversary Reissue" - Vimeo On Demand

Image
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/Curse10thAnniversary To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of "Curse Of The Revenant," a very small horror debut from director Jess Solis that has gained cult status, Ghoulish Grin Films is rereleasing the film on Vimeo On Demand. This release includes the most popular version of the film (the alternate cut) plus the rarely seen 2008 rough cut. This version was only seen on public access television and was edited with a $20 Circuit City edit board and a VHS player, and was filmed on a Hi8 videocamera with titles created either on paper or within the camera itself. Absolutely NOTHING digital in that version. A great look back at how an idea was realized into a movie. Never give up, people. Thank you for your support.
