Ghost Hunter, Scream Queen, Vampire Hunter (Happy Birthday Sarah Michelle Gellar!)

Image
My mom and sister were big on soap operas, and in The '90's I was familiar with Sarah Michelle Gellar as I first saw her in episodes of All My Children with Soap Icon Susan Lucci, holding her own. She wouldn't stay long in the soap world and her ambition took her from daytime to primetime with the small screen adaptation of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." Even though it was originally a big screen take, her version of Buffy is now for many the definitive one. Which isn't a small feat considering back then television was still not on the level it is now. And of course with that success, the Big Screen called. She would appear in hit movies like "I Know What You Did Last Summer," (which I admit was a fun time at the theater), "Scream 2" (which was a solid sequel to an instant classic), "The Grudge," an American adaptation of the classic Japanese Ju On Horror film franchise, and the following sequel, and the Scooby Doo franchise,

You Old Smoothie (Happy Birthday Billy Dee Williams!)

Image
The long and illustrious career of Billy Dee Williams started on Broadway in 1945 in "The Firebrand Of Florence" at the tender age of seven. He made his film debut in 1959's "The Last Angry Man" and from there on had a busy career in theater, film, and television. He's earned Emmy nominations for 1971's "Brian's Song" and starred alongside Diana Ross in the acclaimed "Lady Sings The Blues." But to the science fiction fandom, old and young, he will forever be known as gambler, con artist, and  playboy Lando Calrissian in the blockbuster Star Wars Saga. He first appeared as the character in 1980's "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back," widely regarded as the best film in the franchise. He would then appear in the conclusion to the original trilogy "Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi." "Return Of The Jedi" was a mind blowing experience for me as a seven year old theater goer in

A Titan Of Indie Film (Happy 94th Birthday Roger Corman!)

Image
One of the all time greats of independent cinema, Roger Corman has been referred to as 'The Pope Of  Pop Cinema.' An actor, director, and producer (a role more comfortable to him by his own admission), his career spans decades, with films directed and produced by him either through the major studios or independently. He's often recognized as giving many a high profile Hollywood artist their big break, with names like Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda, Diane Ladd, Bruce Dern, Sylvester Stallone, Dennis Hopper, and William Shatner (who just recently celebrated his 89th birthday) among them. And he's made some high profile cameos in films like "The Silence Of The Lambs," "The Godfather Part II," "Philadelphia," and "Apollo 13." His films were basically B-Movie fare, but enjoyable. Leaving the pretense to the 'artists' and just giving moviegoers what they want...a great time at the theater. He did, however, create a memorable

We're All Mad For Norman (Happy Birthday Anthony Perkins)

Image
A veteran of the big and small screen, Anthony Perkins was the child of theater great Osgood Perkins and had a very promising debut in the film scene, even nabbing a Golden Globe award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the 1956 Gary Cooper film "Friendly Persuasion." But he will forever be remembered for his iconic role as Norman Bates in the "Psycho" horror film series from Universal Studios. He first played the role in the original Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece "Psycho," widely considered the granddaddy of the slasher film. The film, to this day, holds the power of fascinating terror. One can only imagine the sheer fear that theater goers felt when watching it back in 1960. It would take 23 years for a follow-up, and though it had big shoes to fill, it is currently considered a fantastic follow-up to the original classic. "Psycho II" was, of course, a hit and was followed up with "Psycho III." "P

BREAKING NEWS! Tom Cruise CAST As Dracula In Dark Universe Reboot!

Amazing news for fans of Tom Cruise's "The Mummy!" According to WeGotThisSmotheredNews, the movie icon is returning to the Dark Universe...this time as The Prince Of Darkness! In a stunning move that will now link "The Mummy" reboot to the current Universal Studios blockbuster "The Invisible Man," Tom Cruise's character, U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Morton, will return as the legendary Count Dracula! Originally thought to have partially possessed himself with the deity Set, it is now reported (by a very reliable anonymous source who works for famed movie mogul Gull Able) that he was ACTUALLY possessed by the spirit of Dracula himself! And according to this most reliable source (who heard it from a guy he knows who cleans the offices of Mr. Able) the new vessel of Dracula goes on a quest to find The Invisible Man. Also teaming up will be Sofia Boutella's Mummy, Benicio Del Toro as The Wolf Man, and will introduce Peter Dinklage as a CGI Franke
