Let's not feel sorry for Lupita Nyong'o.
She's a vision of beauty who always stops people in their tracks when at award shows and fashion events. She continues to be a working actress, which alone is why you go into the industry.
And let's not forget. She's WON The Academy Award for 2013's "12 Years A Slave." She's continually relevant in the public consciousness and will probably go down as one of Hollywood's finest actresses.
But on January 13th she was noticeably absent from the list of Best Actress nominees.
The Jordan Peele horror film "Us" was released in March, so to have had this kind of buzz going into 2020 speaks volumes. The film was, much like Peele's previous film "Get Out," was critically acclaimed, with Lupita's performance as a standout.
The Academy Awards will always have to deal with snubs and omissions. Taron Egerton's star turn as Elton John in "Rocketman" was noticeably absent. As was Awkwafina for "The Farewell," which both performers won Golden Globes. And there's more.
You're not going to please everyone. This is understandable. But such a tour de force performance from Lupita Nyong'o seems...well wrong.
I'm not going to throw in any other element that will divide. There's no need for that during these divisive times. This just has to do with a performer who masterfully played two roles in one and was captivating.
If anyone thought she was a one and done Oscar winner who won for a single performance...well, we can safely say that she's more than that.

Intentional Parallels? ("Conclave" Movie Review)
"Conclave" is a mystery thriller based on the 2016 Robert Harris book of the same name. Starring Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the film focuses on the most powerful group of the Catholic Church cardinals as they mourn their recently deceased pope and prepare to vote for a new one. As they continue to vote and debate the merits of the nominees, many twists and turns present bumps in the road. And that last twist...well, it's a doozy. Being a registered independent, this film firmly leans in the progressive side of things, though corruption seeps into all sides. It is a fight for those in the middle to choose which way the church will continue into the future. Whether it should go back to reading Latin and become so conservative that they choose not to accept other religions or liberal points of view, or whether to continue to go in a more progressive way and deal with the world as it changes. As I watched this film I couldn't help...
